MID has long been at the forefront of training in Contemporary African Dance and has been the core feeder of talent to the broader industry.

Three years of training is offered on a developmental basis:

  • The first year Performing Arts Training Course selects no more than 22 students per year through a rigorous audition process that spots both talent and passion.
  • Second year students are selected from the among the first years to continue but only between 5-10 are retained.
  • The third year works on a similar premise but only between 3-5 are retained.

Thereafter, true talent and skill is identified and the final tier is the professional dance company. The training programmes involve engaging students on both a theoretical and practical level.
