MOVING INTO
DANCE
Established by Sylvia Glasser in 1978, as one of the first few mixed-race dance companies and training organisations. It has maintained and developed its strong African identity and aesthetic, as well as its artistic merit throughout its considerable history. MID has nurtured hundreds of young artists who are leaders in the dance sector throughout South Africa and abroad. It is a trailblazing, internationally acclaimed, professional Contemporary African Dance Company, as well as a SAQA-accredited training organisation that has produced numerous award-winning and productive dancers, choreographers, arts administrators, and teachers.
MID is driven and run by a dynamic team, accountable to a Board of Trustees. Under the leadership of Chief Executive Nadia Virasamy and Artistic Director Sunnyboy Mandla Motau, Moving into Dance presents work that is thought-provoking, innovative, and accessible. Its work brings to life the zeitgeist of Contemporary African dance, Afrofusion, which is characterised by sheer physical beauty and self-expression.
