Meet Our Dancers

Born in Malahleni, Witbank in Mpumalanga Province, Eugene started dancing in 2002. While he
was performing in “TRIUMPH”, choreographed by Sifiso Kweyama, he encountered Moving into Dance Mophatong (MIDM). He was invited to join MIDM’s Training Course and performed in Sylvia Glasser’s “Transformation” with the Professional Dance Company.

In 2016 Eugene performed in “Romeo & Juliet: Rebellion & Johannesburg,” co-choreographed
by renowned young dance disruptor Jessica Nupen, with Sunnyboy Motau and Oscar
Buthelezi, touring Germany for a month and later Italy, making its South African
debut at The Dance Umbrella 2016. Eugene went to the MASA Festival in Ivory Coast where he performed in “BOLERO,” choreographed for MIDM by Alfred Hinkel, and in “Feathers…”, co-choreographed by Sunnyboy Motau and Rachel Erdos. He performed in Newtown Park for the Africa Day Concert, Katie’s Bar Launch in Kramerville, the GE launch in Rosebank, and the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown. He performed in “We Are Still Marching”, choreographed by Sunnyboy Motau. He toured Russia as part of the Russian/South African Season in 2016. At the start of 2017 he performed Sunnyboy Motau’s “I am NoT” and Oscar Buthelezi’s “Stuck Souls” at The Dance Umbrella.

As a choreographer, he choreographed and performed a trio, “Discovery”, at Impact No.2 at the Joburg Theatre. Mashiane performed at Reps Theatre in Zimbabwe’s HIFA Festival, giving workshops and performing his choreographic work, “Ever Last”. Mashiane won the Dance Xplosion 2016: Best Dancer award for his choreography.
