Meet Our Dancers

Macaleni Muzi Shili
Shili is Company Manager for the Professional Dance Company and is highly respected by his colleagues. He assisted Gregory Maqoma in facilitating workshops at the Adzido Dance Company in London. Over the last three years he has taught in Tembisa and has held dance and choreography workshops in South Africa.
Shili graduated from MIDM in 2000. In 2015 he performed in “Ngizwise” at the HIFA Festival, which then premiered in Durban at the Jomba Festival, and was then staged in 2015 at The Dance Umbrella and the National Arts Festival, where he also performed in Sunnyboy Motau’s “Man-Longing”. He performed in a duet with Oscar Buthelezi who choreographed “ROAD”, which scooped a double award at the Kurt Jooss International Choreography Awards in 2016. He performed at Impact No.1 and Impact No.2 and in Jessica Nupen’s iconic production, “Romeo & Juliet, Rebellion & Johannesburg”. The company toured Moscow and St Petersburg as part of the Russian/South African Season. He was also part of Robyn Orlin’s world tour of “Beauty Remained…”
Shili was the associate choreographer for “Blankets of Shame” and “Threads” by Sylvia Glasser. He was awarded the MEC’s Pick of the Stepping-Stones at the FNB Dance Umbrella for his solo “My partner and I”.
In 2003 he was nominated for the MEC’s Most Promising Male Dancer Award in Contemporary Style at the FNB Dance Umbrella. He was nominated for Most Outstanding Male Dancer in Contemporary Style in 2007.
